By removing color, the viewer is left with the people themselves—their faces, their eyes, their hands, their expressions and their relationships. The contrast between the child's complete surrender and the father's awareness creates the emotional tension of the drawing.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe child can sleep because someone else is staying awake.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is a portrait of fatherhood, but its message extends far beyond fatherhood.
